 MEDIA & THE CITY

Welcome to Media & The City! Here, you will find everything you want to know and more about New York City Media, a winter term class through Miami University.  A three week course comprised of two weeks online and five days immersed in the city itself, there will be much to prepare and share with you all.

The most anticipated portion of the class is almost upon us... January 11th-15th will entail myself and fellow aspiring media writers, journalists, bloggers and television anchors touring major media and news corporations such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, CNN, FOX News, just to name a few.  After gathering ample research on our media guests and organizations, we can put our hard work from week one of the course to the test this coming week.  Each student has been assigned two media guests from a number of news organizions, mine being Lisa Bannon, Deputy Editor for the Arts and Culture section of The Wall Street Journal, and Melissa Knific, Associate Food Editor at Family Circle.  In addition to our news visits and interviews, we will also have the privelege of visiting the 9/11 Museum and Memorial, as well as attending a Broadway show.  Stay tuned for a truly riveting account of New York City- you won't want to miss it!

My advice for aspiring writers is go to New York. And if you can’t go to New York, go to the place that represents New York to you, where the standards for writing are high, there are other people who share your dreams, and where you can talk, talk, talk about your interests. Writing books begins in talking about it, like most human projects, and in being close to those who have already done what you propose to do.
